Dental implants - implantology
Implant dentistry is a surgical specialty that aims to replace missing teeth or severely
damaged, safely. Over the years, many people lose one or more teeth due to decay, injury, aging or
periodontal disease. To live without teeth can be embarrassing and uncomfortable, lack of teeth
affecting speech, appearance and a person's ability to chew and eat.
Dental implants are substitutes for the roots of missing teeth. They act as an anchor for a
replacement tooth - "crown" - or a denture. Due to implant dentistry, patients can obtain functional
restorations and teeth that last.
Missing teeth can affect on one hand the way a person eat, talk or look on the other hand can
compromise overall health of a person's mouth, causing a high pressure on the neighboring teeth,
allowing bone structure to deteriorate.
A dental implant has the same function as a natural tooth root, providing solid support for a new tooth. The first step is to insert the implant. Dental implants are designed to mimic natural tooth root structure. They are placed directly into the patient's jaw, offering a stable and safe support for teeth replacement.
Dental implants - procedure
On the day of the procedure, a local anesthetic is administered to the treatment area before beginning dental implant surgery. Patients seeking additional comfort and calm during the surgery, may choose the sedation dentistry. Sedation dentistry, sometimes called sleep dentistry, is a method of using sedatives to calm a patient and reduce his or her awareness during an oral procedure.
During the dental implant surgery, a titanium implant is inserted in the patient's bone, which naturally fuses to the bone over several weeks. Dental implants are also used to secure dentures or replace full arches of missing teeth.
Because the body sometimes reabsorbs the section of jawbone that is not being used, patients may be left with inadequate bone structure for dental implant restoration surgery. There are very common in situations when we have to rebuild the patient's jaw using human bone, creating a natural, secure foundation for each dental implant.
At the moment modern dentistry use dental implants as an effective option for replacement teeth. Although there is several treatment options for replacing missing teeth, dental implant is a solution that gives a natural feeling, which patients can regain a healthy and functional smile.
Additionally, many people believe that traditional crowns and bridges are not only are uncomfortable and limiting, but they do not always provide the permanent function that they expect from a replacement tooth.
