Orthopedics & Traumatology
Orthopedics & Traumatology is the surgical specialty that deals with prevention, diagnostic, and treatment of the musculoskeletal system disorders (bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons), using medical, surgical and physical procedures.
In Orthopedics & Traumatology, an accurate diagnostic is required before any medical intervention. Usually, medical investigations begin with laboratory tests (phospho-calcium metabolism, uric acid, etc.) and X-ray examinations (fracture and artrosis detection). Paraclinical exploration range can be increased with : articular punction and articular liquid examination (in septic arthritis, gout); bone densitometry (osteoporosis detection); magnetic resonance (in traumatology highlights soft periarticular tissues, ligament and muscle lesions); computed tomography (visualises muscles, blood vessels and bone density).
